His humanity We know that Jesus was fully human because he had human weaknesses and Emotions. Jesus was fully human, he had a human body and would have looked like the other people he lived with. Jesus definitely had a human body we know this because he had a human mother who gave birth to him. It tells you this in Luke 2 v 7, "And she gave birth to a firstborn, a son." Jesus would have felt pain because he was a human. When Jesus was on the cross he would have been in a lot of pain. Jesus had human needs, he needed to eat and drink in order for him to stay alive. Jesus grew up like a normal child. It says this in Luke 2 v 40, "And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon him" Jesus had a human min. Jesus got tempted by human things. When Jesus was in the desert he was tempted by the devil. He would have been very hungry because he just finished a forty day and forty nights without food. The devil came and told Jesus to change some stones into bread. Jesus got tempted by food because he was a human, with human needs. Jesus would have been upset by some of the things that were said, but he would have also been happy by other things. This is because he had human emotions. Jesus became angry especially when people were using the temple as a market place. This shows that Jesus had human emotions. Jesus cried he wouldn't have been able to do this if he hadn't been a human and had human emotions. We know that Jesus used to worry about things. In John 12 v 27 it says, "Now my heart is troubled and what shall I say?" This helps us to see that Jesus had human emotions and that sometimes he even gave into them. Even though Jesus was born by Mary, He was conceived by the spirit. This makes Jesus both fully human and fully God. |
Jesus' Works - Atonement Everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God is righteous, a righteous God can't be in contact with sin. He hates sin but loves the person. When Jesus died God poured all his wrath on Him. Jesus took our punishment this is like when the Isralites (God's chosen people in the Old Testament - in the Bible) sacrificed an animal God considered 'clean'. They would put their sins onto these animals the person who had sinned would then kill this animal as a sacrifice to God. These animals would take the punishmentof the sinner and the people would be made clean with God. |
Jesus' life was motivated by the love of God- his salvation is universal, for all the people and not just the Jews. |
